The present invention relates to a method for producing vanadium dioxide powder having thermochromic and optical properties, and a method for manufacturing a vanadium dioxide thin film using the vanadium dioxide powder. The method for producing vanadium dioxide powder of the present invention comprises the steps of: mixing and heating ammonium metavanadate (NH_4VO_3) and ethylene glycol (C_2H_6O_2) to allow a reaction thereof; selectively separating a precipitate formed by the reaction to obtain vanadyl ethylene glycolate powder; and forming vanadium dioxide (VO_2) powder with properties of blocking near-infrared rays. Accordingly, vanadium dioxide powder having high purity and crystallinity degree are able to be produced.
