The present invention provides a method for evaluating the quality of a transmitted video signal sequence at a receiver side, the method comprising: a) capturing an input video bitstream and providing it to a video bitstream analyzer; b) extracting, by the bitstream analyzer, at least one feature or set of features from the captured input video bitstream; c) providing a set of extracted features or features to the packet loss visibility estimation module; d) determining, by the packet loss visibility estimation module, visibility of packet loss occurring during transmission of the video signal by assigning successive estimates for each packet loss event occurring within a specific time interval; e) combining the packet loss visibility estimate determined by the estimation module with the extracted at least one feature or set of features to evaluate the overall quality (Q) of the transmitted video signal sequence.
