A method of determining a pulse repetition interval (PRI) parameter of a coded pulse-based radar is provided. The method comprises: determining a minimum pulse repetition interval 420 based on an expected velocity resolution and initializing an initial number of pulses; determining a radial velocity of a target 500 by processing a received pulse signal resulting from a transmitted pulse signal reflected on targets, where at least one of the targets is moving; determining a maximum pulse repetition interval 440 based on the determined velocity and an expected quality factor; increasing, if necessary, the number of pulses 460 and reiterate the previous steps until the minimum pulse repetition interval is lower than or equal to the maximum pulse repetition interval 450; and, setting the pulse repetition interval parameter to the minimum pulse repetition interval. The expected velocity resolution and quality factor may depend on the actual application contemplated for the radar. The method is particularly suited to adjust the number of processed echoes relating to the same target to allow for the determination of a range of PRI values that are compatible with both the quality factor, and the velocity resolution required by the actual application of the radar.
