To provide a technique for accurately detecting or measuring phytosterol in a food or beverage composition containing the hydrophobic component containing lipid and phytosterol.SOLUTION: Provided are: an extraction step of extracting the hydrophobic component from the composition using a solvent for extracting the hydrophobic component contained in the food or beverage composition containing the hydrophobic component including lipid and phytosterol; an adsorption step for adsorbing the extracted hydrophobic component to a solid phase extraction column; an elution step of eluting a phytosterol fraction containing phytosterol and no lipid using a solid phase extraction solvent from the solid phase extraction column; and a step of detecting and/or measuring phytosterol in the phytosterol fraction. The solvent for extracting the hydrophobic component is a mixed solvent of methanol and chloroform.SELECTED DRAWING: None
