To estimate a content of metal ions in an electrolyte film with good accuracy.SOLUTION: A fuel cell system comprises: a fuel battery arranged by stacking a plurality of single cells 11, each having a membrane-electrode assembly (MEA 14) including an anode catalyst layer 13a and a cathode catalyst layer 13c with an electrolyte film 12 located therebetween; an impedance measurement device for measuring an AC impedance of the fuel battery; an impedance acquisition unit arranged so as to acquire a first imaginary part value of the AC impedance of the fuel battery at a fixed frequency where the product of a frequency (Hz) and a square of a film thickness (μm) of the electrolyte film 12 is less than 500 in a state in which the relative humidity of MEA 14 is 20% or more, a fuel gas is present in the anode catalyst layer 13a and the cathode catalyst layer 13c, and there is no oxidant gas; and a metal ion quantity-estimation unit arranged to estimate a content of metal ions in the electrolyte film 12 on the basis of the first imaginary part value of the AC impedance acquired by the impedance acquisition unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
