To provide means enabling a mechanician to safely and conveniently access to a region of a hoistway above an elevator car.SOLUTION: An elevator car (6) defining an interior space (12) for housing passengers includes a support frame (22) positioned at an upper surface side of the interior space (12), a support structure (30) pivotally mounted on the support frame (22), and a workbench (28) pivotally mounted on the support structure (30). The support structure (30) pivotally moves with respect to the support frame (22). The workbench (28) pivotally moves with respect to the support structure (30) between a storage position in which the workbench (28) and the support structure (30) are oriented to get close to the support frame (22) and a deployment position in which the support structure (30) extends to get away from the support frame (22) toward the interior space (12) and the workbench (28) extends to get away from the support structure (30).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
