To provide a positive electrode active material precursor for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, by which a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, including particles having a large particle diameter and a hollow structure can be formed.SOLUTION: Provided is a positive electrode active material precursor for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which comprises a nickel cobalt manganese carbonate composite represented by the general formula, NiCoMnMCO(where x+y+z+t=1, 0.05≤x≤0.3, 0.1≤y≤0.4, 0.55≤z≤0.8 and 0≤t≤0.1, and M represents one or more additive elements selected from Mg, Ca, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo and W). The positive electrode active material precursor includes secondary particles resulting from agglomeration of primary particles. The secondary particles have an average particle diameter of 15 μm or more and 45 μm or less. The secondary particles have a coarse center part formed by a primary particle, and a dense outer shell part outside the center portion.SELECTED DRAWING: None
