The invention relates to a mode of monitoring the pulse variation exerted by at least one float (2) exerting traction on an underwater pipeline (1), wherein: 1) the deformation of at least one optical fiber (3) is measured by measuring the variation of an optical signal in said surface-extending or securely embedded fiber in the volume of at least one of the following support elements: (a) the float; (b) at least a portion of: (b1) the length of the tubular wall of the tube or (b2) an anti-corrosion coating or thermally insulating material affixed to the surface of said tube to which said buoy exerts traction, and (c) a support part (4) attached to said tube or float and to which said float exerts said thrust; and 2) a variation of said pulse exerted by said float is determined as a function of said variation of the optical signal.
