The invention relates to a method for detecting and filtering interference terms in Wigner-Ville time-frequency representation, to be applied in analyzing the signals by means of time-frequency transformations. According to the invention, the method is of iterative type, the iteration number depending on the number of sinusoidal components in the analyzed signal, and it provides a time-frequency image without the interference terms specific to Wigner-Ville transformation, starting from the basic idea that the interference terms occur and are geometrically placed between two real terms, and the removal or the reduction of one of the real terms automatically results in the reduction of the interference terms which can be thus identified. The basic operations involved are: calculation of the Wigner-Ville transform, calculation of the Renyi entropy, identification of the real terms and extraction of the characteristics thereof, band-pass filtering the signal, on the frequency of the real term component, storing and comparing the image associated to Wigner-Ville transformations to the image from the previous iteration.
