A system to improve the positioning of an implantable shunt in a patient, the system comprising: a clinical programmer (60) having a graphical user interface; an implantable shunt (20) attachable to the clinical programmer (60), where the implantable shunt comprises at least four electrodes (40); at least one minimally invasive positionable EMG detection electrode on the skin surface or inside the patient; where the clinical programmer is configured to facilitate the positioning of the implantable shunt in an objective stimulation region by: the administration of a test stimulation at a level of stimulation amplitude to a patient's nervous tissue with a main electrode of the implantable shunt , where the main electrode is selected from at least four electrodes (40) of the implantable bypass (20); the administration of test stimulations at the same level of stimulation amplitude for the same period of time sequentially to each of the other electrodes (40) of the implantable shunt (20); and obtaining an EMG motor response record induced by stimulation for test stimulations detected through at least one EMG detection electrode.
