Provided is a communication system with which it is possible to obtain sufficient reception power at each of a wireless relay device and a gateway station without being subjected to the influence of attenuation due to rainfall or the like. The communication system performs communications via a wireless relay device positioned up in the air. A plurality of gateway stations forming feeder-link wireless sections with the wireless relay device are arranged at a plurality of positions geographically spaced apart from each other on the ground or at sea. The plurality of gateway stations perform, with the wireless relay device, simultaneous transmission/reception of signals via a plurality of feeder links, or signal transmission/reception involving switching of the feeder links.
