A system is described for detecting an abnormal gait condition of a railway vehicle (1), including a first and a second control chain (C1) connected to a digital output (O) adapted to supply or not supply power to a load (L) depending on the detection of an abnormal gait condition; the first control chain (CI) comprising first sensor means (SI) that detect first detection data of the attitude and/or movement of the railway vehicle and a first control unit (Ul) adapted to receive the first detection data from the first sensor means (SI) to execute a first computer program (SW1) for checking an abnormal gait and adapted to control first electronic control means (El) for supplying or not supplying power to the load (L); and the second control chain (C2) comprising second sensor means (S2) which detect second detection data of the attitude and/or movement of the railway vehicle and a second control unit (U2) adapted to receive the second detection data from the second sensor means (S2), to execute a second computer program (SW2) for checking an abnormal gait, and to command second electronic control means (E2) to power or not to power the load (L); the first and second sensor means (S1, S2) are different from each other, the first and second control units (U1, U2) are different from each other, the first and the second computer program (SW1, SW2) are different from each other and the first and second electronic control means (E1, E2) are different from each other.
