The present invention relates to a method for the enzymatic synthesis of long-chain fatty acid alkyl esters in the presence of an alcohol and of an enzymatic preparation comprising a sterol esterase/lipase immobilised covalently on surface-functionalised magnetic particles. The immobilisation of the versatile lipase using the method described can increase the yield of the alkyl ester synthesis process, as well as allowing the catalyst to be recovered for future reactions in a simple and efficient manner, without the activity and speed of the sterol esterase/lipase being reduced significantly during at least 10 consecutive reaction cycles.
