Method and system for the treatment of a spent chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst and alkaline wastewater. The method comprises: 1) mixing a spent chloroaluminate ionic liquid catalyst with strong brine for hydrolysis reaction till complete elimination of the residual activity of the spent catalyst, thereby obtaining acidic hydrolysate and acid-soluble oil; 2) mixing the acidic hydrolysate with lye containing alkaline wastewater for neutralization reaction until the reaction system becomes weak alkaline, thereby obtaining a neutralization solution containing metal hydroxide flocs; 3) fully mixing the neutralization solution with a flocculant, carrying out sedimentation separation, collecting the strong brine at the upper layer for reuse in hydrolysis reaction, and collecting the concentrated flocs at the lower layer; 4) dehydrating the concentrated flocs, collecting wet solid slag, and reusing the dehydrated strong brine in hydrolysis reaction; and 5) drying the wet solid slag to obtain dried solid slag. The method can mildly eliminate the activity of the spent catalyst, has good stability and safety in technological operation, and ensures the high quality of recovered oil products.
