A retractable device (100) for protecting the head of a user against environmental elements, which comprises: - at least one hoop (110), - at least two joints (135) of at least one hoop with a support, each joint being attached at one end to at least one hoop, at least one joint comprising a means of locking said hoop in a predetermined position, called the "deployed position", - a support (150) at least partially closed, configured to at least partially surround the neck of the user, comprising: - at least one rest (130) resting on the shoulder of the user and - at least one spacer (140) for positioning each joint at a predetermined distance from each rest in the deployed position; - a fabric (115) attached to each hoop and to the support for creating a protective screen around the head of the user in the deployed position, the fabric and the hoops are circumscribed by the support in a position, called the "folded position", minimising the space requirement of the device, between the neck and the shoulders of the user, freeing the back of the user.
