The present invention relates to a method for promoting differentiation rate of mesenchymal stem cells into neurons comprising a step for pretreating metformin in mesenchymal stem cells, and to a medium composition for promoting differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into neurons, which comprises metformin as an active ingredient, wherein the method of the present invention is expected to further enhance the utilization of the mesenchymal stem cells in the field of cell therapy for the treatment of neurological diseases.
