The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting a defective discharge of an igniter of a gas appliance and a control method in accordance with the same. More specifically, according to the present invention, the apparatus for detecting a defective discharge of the igniter of the gas appliance comprises: a step of, when a user enters an ignition signal through an operation unit in order to ignite a fuel intake of the gas alliance or a burner, allowing the control unit to drive the igniter through an igniter driving unit; a step of detecting a discharge voltage occurring when the igniter works through an igniter discharge detection unit; a step of determining whether the discharge voltage of the igniter detected by the igniter discharge detection unit is within a range of a normal discharge towards a pre-determined target point; a step of, when the discharge voltage of the igniter is not within the range of a normal discharge towards a pre-determined target point, determining whether a defective discharge voltage of an abnormal waveform is detected or not through a defective discharge voltage detection unit connected to a flame detection unit; and a step of, when a defective discharge voltage of an abnormal waveform is detected by the defective discharge voltage detection unit connected to the flame detection unit, displaying the defective discharge error of the flame detection unit on a display unit. Accordingly, the present invention is able to allow a user to precisely learn that a defective discharge is conducted from the igniter towards the frame rod side due to a cause such as a disorder in a process of assembling the igniter or a high surrounding humidity due to conditions for installation and use without having to disassemble a product, and to rapidly take a necessary action, and to greatly improve productivity of the product′s own and a reliability in accordance with maintenance.
