The present invention relates to a method for controlling sudden unintended acceleration due to a malfunction of an engine in a power split type HEV system. According to the present invention, when it is determined that a delta RPM of an engine gets out of a predetermined standard, a driving point of the engine does not move along a predetermined profile in accordance with an aimed engine driving point. Also, it is determined that sudden unintended acceleration is possible. The delta RPM is a difference value of a current RPM of the engine and an engine profile RPM required to move to the aimed engine driving point in a current engine state. According to the present invention, the method for controlling sudden unintended acceleration can prevent the sudden unintended acceleration due to the malfunction of the engine in a power split type hybrid system.
