The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating stress diseases comprising disrupted-in-schizophrenia 1 (DISC1) protein or a gene encoding the same, and a method for screening a material for preventing or treating stress diseases. According to the present invention, based on a research result of relation between DISC1 and physiological stress, a function and an acting site of DISC1 are defined, thereby providing an intracellular calcium reaction model with respect to psychological stress, wherein DISC1 is coupled to an inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP_3) receptor type1 (IP_3R1) at a mitochondria-associated endoplasmic reticulum membrane (MAM) to competitively inhibit the binding with IP_3 and thus, downregulating the movement of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondria calcium ion (Ca^(2+)) by stress hormone-mediated oxidative stress. Moreover, DISC1, which is a stress control substance, and the model can be useful in a related field for preventing or treating stress diseases.
