A street light monitoring system and a method thereof are disclosed. The street light monitoring system according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a street light, an illumination sensor for sensing the illumination of the street light, a recognition part corresponding to the street light and recognized by a pedestrian terminal, and a control system. The control system includes: a determination part which determines whether the street light is abnormal based on a request signal transmitted by the pedestrian terminal recognizing the recognition part or a sensing result of the illuminance sensor; and a communication part which transmits notification information to the control system based on the determination result of the determination part. It is possible to increase the safety and convenience of the pedestrian and greatly improve the management efficiency of a manager.
