Template assisting methods for 2D nanosheet synthesis include growing a 2D material on the surface of a nanoparticle substrate that serves as a template for nanosheet growth. The 2D nanosheet can then be released from the template surface, for example through chemical intercalation and exfoliation, purified, and the template can be reused.
