The present invention relates to a fault detection, shielding and reconfiguration approach, architecture and method for use in an electrohydraulic operating system for construction equipment. In one embodiment, a supervisory controller adapted to interact with a main controller of a construction vehicle is provided. Also disclosed are a plurality of control nodes interacting with a supervisory controller, each comprising a pressure and position sensor. Further, a first actuator control node for controlling the operation of the first hydraulic actuator and a second actuator control node and a pump control node for controlling the operation of the second hydraulic actuator are included. The control system has an architecture in which defects are detected and shielded at the comparison level and at the subsystem level within each control node of the supervisory controller level, possibly the sensor level.
