The present invention relates to an IoT-based embedded type traffic signal autonomous operation system and, more specifically, to a system which can autonomously operate embedded type traffic signals by applying IoT technology that is fourth industrial technology. Specifically, a plurality of vehicle detection sensors are provided at regular intervals on the center lines of roads connected to an intersection, and detect whether a vehicle on the road at the location at which the sensors are provided is moving or stationary. When the vehicle detection information, which is a detection result, is transmitted to an RTU, the vehicle detection information transmitted from the plurality of vehicle detection sensors through the embedded type RTU is used to primarily identify a vehicle congestion state of a specific road. When the vehicle congestion on a specific road is identified by the primary identification, a camera is controlled to be directed in the specific road direction. When a video photographed by the camera is analyzed to finally determine that there is a traffic jam on the specific road, a control signal is provided to an intersection traffic signal controller to make a driving signal (green signal) cycle of the specific road longer than usual.
