A luminaire includes: a communication interface, a light source configured to provide a light output for general illumination, an image sensor configured to capture image information associated with a field of view; and a control circuit configured to provide a drive signal to the light source for controlling the light output. In one embodiment, the control circuit is further configured to determine, for each object in the field of view, whether the object in the field of view is a documenter, based on the image information, if the object is a documenter, to track a movement of the document occupant within the field of view; and determine a number of occupancy ends in the field of view. The control circuit may also be configured to provide occupancy information relating to the number of occupancy ends in the field of view to a remote unit via the communication interface.
