An improved downhole packer tool 100 includes a bypass channel and a method of reducing or preventing debris from entering the bypass chamber 4. Seals 3 prevent the passage of fluid into the chamber 4. The seals may be replaced by filters. ‘Inflow’ or ‘negative’ tests may be carried out when the packer is in place.
