To provide an athletic ability-improving agent and a muscle-maintaining agent, containing Ganoderma lucidum, in more details, a muscle-maintaining agent having as a muscle maintaining action, a muscle formation-promoting action, or a muscular atrophy-inhibiting action, or both actions of muscle formation promotion and muscular atrophy inhibition, and a food composition for maintaining muscles, containing a muscle-maintaining agent.SOLUTION: The invention has an athletic ability-improving action, a spontaneous momentum-improving action, and a muscle-maintaining action so as to be used for food, quasi-drugs, medicines, animal feed for domestic animals and pets aiming the actions.
