PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing alkyl 2-etoxy-1-[[2'-(hydroxyiminocarboxamide)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl]-1H-benzimidazole-7-carboxylate, which becomes an intermediate for Azilsartan, with a simple operation at high yield and high purity.SOLUTION: High purity alkyl 2-etoxy-1-[[2'-(hydroxyiminocarboxamide)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl]-1H-benzimidazole-7-carboxylate is manufactured by reacting alkyl 1-[(2'-cyanobiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-2-ethoxybenzimidazole-7-carboxylate, hydroxylamine, and/or hydroxyl amine acid salt in a reaction solvent containing alcohol with 2 to 7 carbon atoms.SELECTED DRAWING: None
