cloning and application of a pleiotropic ghd7 gene that controls grain yield, vegetative cycle characters and rice plant height the present invention relates to the cloning and application of a pleiotropic ghd7 gene that controls grain yield, characters of the vegetative cycle and height of rice plant. the gene has the nucleotide sequence as shown in sequence: 1. the sequence of the present gene was 3,917 bp in length, contains two exons and encodes 257 amino acids. the gene's cdna sequence was as shown in sequence: 1. the present gene encodes a protein having the co-protein cct domain and having the amino acid sequence as shown in sequence: 1. transgenic rice plants for ghd7 gene were obtained using transgene technology. the transgenic plants all exhibit markedly increased yield, large number of spikelets per panicle, delayed vegetative cycle characters and high plant height as compared to their respective controls (wild type receptor plants). the trait changes were very consistent with the phenotypes of the original genotypes of zhenshan 97 almost ghd7 isogenic lines. the present invention also relates to methods for gene cloning, for generation of almost isogenic lines and for transgene manipulation, as well as to the application of the ghd7 pleiotropic gene in research on rice generation and plant evolution.
