The invention relates to a process for preparing the luminophore LiYFdoped with rare earths: Yb, Er, with luminescent properties under the action of infrared radiation. According to the invention, the process comprises, in a first stage, the precipitation reaction of a LiF and YFfluoride mixture, as nanocrystalline dry powder, followed by a second stage of solid state reaction of the prepared crystalline fluorides, at temperatures of 400...500°C, in air, to result in a nanocrystalline powder of LiYFdoped with 1% Erand 4% Yb, with luminescent characteristics of high conversion type.
