The invention relates to a composition that can promote the formation of neurons in a culture and in brain injuries. The invention relates to the use of the compound 7,8,12-tri-O-acetyl-3-O-(4-methoxyphenyl) acetylingol (hereafter referred to as EOF2) or a pharmacologically active salt of said compound, in order to promote the differentiation of neurons from neural precursors or neural stem cells in a culture and in brain injuries. The invention also relates to the use of said compound for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition that can be used in the treatment of CNS injuries that present with neuronal loss.
