The invention relates to a selector device (1) for a transmission of a motor vehicle, having a selector lever (3) which, in order to select a first drive position (N) of the transmission, is manually movable from an initial position (A) by a first distance in at least one direction (4) as far as a first stop (5) and, in order to select a second drive position (R), which differs from the first drive position (N), of the transmission, is manually movable from the initial position (A) by a second distance, which is greater than the first distance, in the at least one direction (4) as far as a second stop (6), wherein, in order to implement a function of the motor vehicle, the selector lever (3) is manually movable from the initial position (A) in at least one second direction (7), which runs obliquely or perpendicularly with respect to the direction (4), as far as a third stop (8), wherein the selector lever (3) is of monostable design and thus automatically returns into the initial position (A) after the selection of the respective drive position (N, R) and after the implementation of the function.
