The present invention relates to an adsorbent material useful for trapping radioactive iodine from iodine compounds in gaseous state by isotopic substitution, comprising a zeolite having specific Si/Al molar ratio and pore opening, said zeolite being loaded with an iodide salt chosen from an alkali metal salt, an alkaline earth metal salt or a quaternary ammonium salt, preferably the iodide salt is a potassium iodide (KI). The invention also relates to a method for trapping radioactive iodine from iodine compounds in gaseous form by isotopic substitution of iodine from said adsorbent material loaded with iodide salt, as well as to a method for preparing an adsorbent material according to the first subject matter of the invention.
