The invention relates to a method for identifying an association of phase lines (L1, L2, L3) of an electrical distribution network (3) to connections (U, V, W) of an unbalanced-load-bearing electrical device (1), wherein the device (1) is connected to a plurality of phase lines (L1, L2, L3) of the electrical distribution network (3). The method comprises the steps of: setting target parameters (20a, 20b, 20c) associated with an unbalanced-load profile at the connections (U, V, W) of the electrical device (1); detecting a measuring parameter (21a, 21b, 21c), in particular a time curve of a measuring parameter (21a, 21b, 21c), at each of the plurality of phase lines (L1, L2, L3) by means of a detection unit (2); comparing the detected measuring parameters (21a, 21b, 21c) with the target parameters (20a, 20b, 20c) of the unbalanced-load profile; and identifying the association of the phase lines (L1, L2, L3) with the connections (U, V, W) on the basis of the comparison. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method and to an unbalanced-load-bearing device comprising such an apparatus.
