The present invention relates to a technique to prevent a lateral movement of an abutment. An empty space (50) is retained on a rear side of an abutment without backfilling banking to prevent soft ground subsidence and horizontal shear deformation observed in a case where a conventional localized load of a backfilled banked layer on a rear side of an abutment acts on soft ground underneath. An upwardly convex arch structure (70) is constructed on an upper portion of the empty space (50) formed by non-banking of the rear side of the abutment. One end (72) of the arch structure (70) is rotated and supported on the rear surface of the abutment and the other end (74) of the arch structure (70) is fixed and supported on an underground foundation structure (60) of a banked layer of a slope away from the abutment. While a conventional localized load due to the backfilled banked layer of the rear side of the abutment on soft ground is prevented from acting or is greatly reduced, a load of a road and a driving load of a vehicle can be stably dispersed and transferred to the abutment (30) and the underground foundation structure (60) of the banked layer of the slope.
