Compositions and methods for preparing silicon nanowires or silicon nanoplates are presented, wherein the composition serves as potassium hydroxide (KOH), one or more catalysts, sodium metal siliconate (Na ₂ SiO ₂ ), and a first chelating agent Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA).
