A microwave imaging sensor is disclosed that is resilient to the background and skin clutter. Resilience is obtained by erasing skin reflections without using a microwave antenna array or subject's mechanical displacement by using reflections from other antennas and compensating for differences in propagation. The cancellation takes into account the expected intensity of the reflection at different time points and for different pairs in order to minimize the effects on the image and in particular on the image reconstruction of the symmetric targets.
