The disinfection of tooth surfaces as well as cavities and drill holes in dentistry is a challenge, in particular the disinfection of deep holes, as in a root canal treatment, is difficult. Previous methods (chemical, medicinal, physical) often do not kill all microorganisms and thus do not provide complete disinfection and thus no healing. Disinfection by means of UV-C radiation requires targeted application on a clean surface free of liquids such as blood and saliva. The invention belongs to the field of dental medicine and describes an instrument for disinfecting tooth surfaces, tooth cavities and tooth bores using compressed air and UV-C LEDs. The instrument in the form of a syringe disinfects using UV-C radiation. One or more UV-C LEDs emit light in the wavelength range between 200nm and 280nm, which has the disinfecting effect. The area to be disinfected is cleaned of dirt and contamination at the same time with compressed air. A controllable air pump is built into the instrument, which feeds compressed air through a connecting element into the irradiation channel and thereby blows away liquids and solids at the irradiation site. The instrument is suitable for disinfection in dental medicine. In particular, the disinfection of carious defects and deep holes, such as with root canal treatment, is supported.
