The present invention relates to a method for surface treatment of a substrate, said method comprising: (i) providing at least one cathode comprising at least Nickel in a vacuum chamber; (ii) providing a substrate in the vacuum chamber so as to present a surface suitable for undergoing a surface treatment; (iii) treating the surface of the substrate by exposing at least part of the surface to a plasma comprising at least nickel ions in said vacuum chamber generated by magnetron sputtering in a high power pulse regime ( HiPIMS) at the cathode; and (iv) optionally the deposition of at least nickel by magnetron cathodic sputtering in high power pulse regime (HiPIMS or optionally in continuous regime (DC) on a part of the surface of the substrate, said deposit forming one or more continuous layers on the surface of the substrate.
