This airborne radar (10) is characterized in that it is capable of operating in an optimal regime for optimally imaging a first zone (Z1) of reduced range (R), and in a forced regime for imaging a second zone ( Z2) of extended range (2R), the radar being, in the forced mode, configured to present a rate of renewal of information reduced compared to that used to image the first zone in the optimal mode, the rate of renewal of reduced information allowing, in forced mode, to limit the average energy consumption and the average thermal energy to be dissipated.
