A message delivery system 10 comprises a television set 14 for delivering at least one message to a user, and a primary messaging device 12. The primary messaging device 12 stores at least one message, determines when to deliver the at least one message to a user, and causes the television set 14 to deliver the at least one message. The primary messaging device 12 may receive an input from the user in response to receipt of the message, and transmit an alert message if it does not receive a user response input. The primary messaging device 12 may also include an output device for delivering the message and receive an input from the user on receipt of the message, and may be configured such that if the user input is not received, it then sends the at least one message to the television set 14. The system may also include sensor for detecting presence of the user, and may deliver the message/alert message based upon detection of presence. The primary messaging device 12 may also communicate with and operate a remote control 34 of the television set 14 to send signals to the television set 14.
