A pedestrian crossing arrangement 100 comprises a pedestrian sensor and one or more traffic warning lights 1, such as LEDs, activated by the presence of a pedestrian being detected. The lights may be yellow when not activated, and change colour to flashing red when activated by an infrared sensor. The lights can be programed to flash at a desired frequency, delay and time. The lights may be Belisha beacons mounted to separate posts 4 on either side of the crossing 2, and infrared transmitters may also be mounted to the post. An infrared receiver may be embedded into the pavement 1001 on an opposite side of the crossing to each transmitter. The sensors may instead comprise pressure sensors. The lights may be embedded into the pedestrian crossing. The lights and sensors may be connected using wires or wireless technology, such as Bluetooth (RTM).
