Method of attaching a strike tip holder to a pick tool body of a pick tool

A strike tip holder is attached to a pick tool body by rubbing the tip holder and tool body under an applied compressive load and oscillating at least one component along a linear path relative to the other component to provide a solid state diffusion bond. The strike tip holder may be made from a carbide material e.g. tungsten carbide, and the pick tool body may be steel. The components may be pre-heated and/or post-heated. The applied compressive load may be at least 150MPa.
