The title compound, C22H23NO3, was obtained by the reaction of ( 2R, 3R)- N- benzhydryl- N-( 2- cyclopropyl- 2- oxoethyl)- 2,3epoxybutyramide with Lithium bis( trimethylsilyl) amide in tetrahydrofuran solution. The absolute configuration has been assigned by reference to an unchanging chiral centre in the synthetic procedure. The molecular packing is stabilized by intermolecular O - H center dot center dot center dot O and C - H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds.
