This paper attempts to give a comprehensive account of the intellectual biography of the renowned modern Chinese scholar-writer Hsu Ti-Shan (1893-1941) and his scholarly acquaintance with Professor A. V. Williams Jackson (1826-1937), Hsu’s mentor in the studies of Manichaeism in Central Asia and China at Columbia University.
