On the Construction of an Online Database for Historical Chinese-language Teaching Materials

In recent years the number of digitized books has been growing considerably. Yet on the other hand, this digitization has been carried on an institution-by-institution basis, resulting in a fragmentation of these information resources and a need for organizing them. This led us to the concept of a database of digital archives that would catalogue and collate these dispersed resources, and specifically the construction of a database specialized for Chinese-language teaching materials. This paper begins with a discussion of why such a database is needed, and then discusses the concept, systems design, and future aims of the database that was actually constructed.
