Carving Records and ship-borne Seal Carving books of China in Edo period： based on the book “Textual Research of Seal Carving Records”

摘要

Zeng Zhiwei, who was living in the Edo Period, wrote the earliest Seal Carving bibliographic book “Textual Research of Seal Carving Records” which collected materials of Seal Carving books and classified the materials with directories. This book collected 198 kinds of Seal Carving Record, 174 of them are from China. Almost all the Seal Carving books before middle & later Edo Period are recorded in this book. This article carries on a textual research on Zeng Zhiwei’s material sources through his life experience and circle of friends. Compared with ship-borne Seal Carving books of “Textual Research of Seal Carving Records” and ship-borne books’ catalog of China in Edo period, the relationship is researched in this article. By checking “Su’s Seal Carving Resume”, the integrated process of how Chinese Seal Carving books shipped to Japan and recorded is restored.
