On a Periodization for the History of Cultural Interaction between Japan and China

摘要

In this paper，the author examines some periodizations of the cultural interaction between Japan and China，and points out that not firm periodization can be seen in previous works on Japan-China relation. This lack of periodization，the author argues，iscaused by the position of historical studies for cultural interaction.In Japan，a study ofcultural exchange with China has been considered as apart of Japanese history，while，in China, a study for the cultural relation of China with Japan has been recognized as a supplementary part of the whole Chinese history. The author emphasizes the necessity of creating new periodization for the Japan-China interaction，based not on each history but on the interaction itself.
