Okvalificerat arbete och slöseri i vården - Fallstudie av en kirurgavdelning vid Sahlgrenska Universitetssjukhus

TheSwedishhealthcareisfacingmajorchallengeswithrisinglifeexpectancyaswellasanagingpopulation.Tomeettherequirements,thehealthcaremustbecomemoreeffective,waitinglistsshortened,nursingstaffrelievedandpatientstreatedwithinthecareguarantee.Worktowardsimprovedqualityofcareandaccessibilityisoftenbasedonlogistics,withthetheoreticalbasisofthemanufacturingphilosophyofleanProduction.Leanhasprovenincreasinglyapplicableandreceivedgreatsuccesswithinhealthcare,andthereforehavedifferentorientationsofleanbeenstudiedandtheoreticallyappliedinthestudy.Wasteeliminationhasacentralroleinthereport.AlongwithaSurgicalWardatSahlgrenskaUniversityHospital,acollaborationbeganofthisqualitativecasestudyregardinglogisticalapplications.Thedepartment’sperceivedproblemisthatcompetentstaffisdevotingalotoftimetoexecuteunqualifiedtasks,withtransportationsofpatientbedsinparticular.Thereportliststheactivitiesthatareconsideredtobeunqualifiedwhichdoesn’thavetobeperformedbynurses.Observationshavebeencarriedoutincombinationwithliteraturestudiesinordertoidentifytheactivitiesandcreateanoverallunderstandingoftheproblemanditsextent.Theaimofthethesisistoexaminethedurationoftheunqualifiedworkinthedepartment,focusingonthebedtransportation.TheproblemisnotexclusivetoSahlgrenskaUniversityhospitalbutitisacommonactivityintheSwedishhealthcareandinhospitalsaroundtheworld.Finally,threeproposalsofimprovementarepresentedtoremedytheperceivedproblemandtoanswerthereport'sinitialaim.Suggestiononeproposesapart-­‐timejobapplicanttohelpthenursingstaffwiththeactivitiesthatareconsideredmostburdensome.Suggestiontwopresentsafull-­‐timejobwheretheemployeewillbebasedonthethreesurgicaldepartmentsandassociatedreception.Theservicewillincludemainlybedtransportationand,incaseoftime,otherunqualifiedactivities.Thethirdandfinalsuggestionproposesaninvestmentinthelongertermwiththeintroductionofarobotthatperformstransport-­‐relatedactivitiesatthehospital.
