This paper concerns the forwarding company KDSB and their investigation of intermodaloperational activities in the Northern part of Europe. Due to receiving new contracts by threecustomers in the Oresund area of Scandinavia, KDSB will enter the freight forwardingbusiness in the region. One customer is located in Malmo, another in Copenhagen and athird at the Hoje Taastrup terminal outside of Copenhagen. These customers have a demandof transportation between the port of Hamburg and their locations. Furthermore, the companyhave chosen to operate on the new to be constructed Fehmern Belt Link. The construction ofthe link is to be finalized in 2021, and is expected to change the current flow of freight in theScandinavian region. In order to conduct necessary investments and strategic decisions,KDSB have evaluated other possible routes and modes. Hence, the new Fehmern Belt Linkis being compared with other possible alternatives.
