Negotiating Complexity in Test Automation Tool Support - A Design Research Approach

Fully realizing the vision of agile processes mightrequire practical tool support to enable activities like testdriven design, refactoring, and regression testing. In this paperwe will examine in detail, the design process of developing atest automation framework for a company in need of reducingtime consuming manual testing. By employing an iterativeresearch process, we will investigate and present whatconsiderations, in both practice and academia, must be takenin order to reach a suitable tool design. The depth of theproblem is acknowledged and, as we will see, calls for acomplex design process. This process, along with theframework design, is comprehensibly described within thispaper. In addition, we will also assess the framework’spotential impact on the company’s work process.
